This was probably one of my favorite portrait sessions to date. The light, the love, the cake! It was all so perfect...and dare I say, yummy! It's not everyday that I begin a session with freshly brewed coffee and then a huge slice of wedding cake to take home - but this needs to become a thing, FRFR.
The Stephens just celebrated their 1st wedding anniversary and they wanted to document it by sharing a normal morning together and letting me be the third wheel. As they sat on their (SUPER comfy) couch, I learned about how they first met and observed the soft smiles they shared as they reflected on their early memories. *CUE THE FEELS* I even got to hear a song they wrote together on the piano - I thought it was cool they trusted me enough to let me in their little world in that way.
We ended their session with a stroll around the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club. With it being midday, the sun was-a-blazin' but it created the most beautiful light I've ever seen during that time - I already said it was perfect, but I'll say it again #PERF but I do believe it was their connection that really made the day what it was.
Thank you, Daniel + Erica, for opening up your home and allowing me the honor of capturing new memories for you. It is my hope that you both will be able to look back at these images with fondness and will be able to further cherish this specific season of life together for years to come.

*Long post alert*
Backstory: I met Boone & Steven for the first time on October 11th, 2014 when I photographed their wedding day. They easily became one of my favorite couples to photograph. These two are like sun and moon. It's so fascinating to watch how they interact and relate to another, despite being so different. Boone is an artist and Steven works with planes. Boone is outgoing + extroverted and Steven is reserved + introverted. But they have their own language, and can communicate sometimes with just eye-contact.
Boone & I managed to keep in touch over the years, and I'm so glad we have! Despite living hours a part, I was determined to photograph them again. SOOO, I contacted her a little after their 2nd wedding anniversary last year and asked if they'd be willing to model for me and they agreed - yay! I told her that I would contact her at the beginning of this year and we'd set it up.
Fast-forward: I drove up to their little town of Darien (just above of Brunswick), to meet them on the Darien City Docks for our portrait session together. I had never been there before, let alone even knew it existed. It has a small marina off the Altamaha River, where dozens of shrimp + sail + leisure boats are docked. Then they've several ruins from the Civil War stationary in between all the charming downtown stores + restaurants.
We hung around the docks, walked around downtown, then ended the session at their parents home on the marsh. I walked inside the home and is welcomed by the fresh evening light coming through all the large bay windows and the coastal decor peppered throughout the home. And don't get me started on the dock in the "backyard".
*I die again*
Summary: This entire session flowed so naturally, that hours went by and I didn't even notice (they probably did tho - haha, But I just couldn't stop!). The only thing was planned about this shoot was the locations + the vibes of their outfits. That's it. The rest all came together on it's own. Which how I'd like every session to be. I'd love to do more sessions like these with no time constraint or expectations, and be the third-wheel on a leisure date.
A big thank you to The Sassers for hanging out with me and allowing me back into their world for a bit. Also, PLEASE check out Boone's artwork, here, on her website. I can't wait to grab one of these refreshing + colorful pieces for our home!

Kaitlyn & Lyle are newlyweds, est. November of 2016 <3 The last time I photographed them they weren't even engaged yet! Kaitlyn also happens to be my dear cousin, and it warms my heart to see her beginning life with her soulmate - I couldn't have imagined a better husband for her.
For their session location, I told them I wanted to go explore some different parts of Downtown Val. I've been growing tired of the same ole' grassy fields and oak trees I've been surrounded by lately - and even going Downtown was getting kind of redundant, but I wanted to see if I could document it with new perspectives. I basically wanted to challenge my eye and discover new ways of looking at familiar places. I'm pleased with what we were able to create - but I'm already planning a round 2 with these two ;-)
If there are any other couples out there that are willing to go on a small adventure with me like this, hit me up!
